It's probably not that he doesn't understand it, but that he didn't look into it enough. He did say that they practically rebuilt the game from the ground up. Combining that with ensuring the system would feel identical on 3DS and WiiU alongside his hand injury, I'm not sure he had enough time to really flesh out all the things he wanted to before deadlines became a factor.

I mean, look at the loot system. It's just dripping with the "unfinished" aura, considering how practically every piece of equipment you get is marked as "NEW" but that's only because it has slightly different stat variation. Not to mention how you run into rampant amounts of duplicate shit.
